Facial Trauma and Reconstruction

Expert Care for Facial Injuries and Trauma

Facial-Trauma-RecontructionFacial injuries can be emotionally overwhelming—on top of the physical pain, they often affect how you look, speak, eat, and feel. At Sunridge Oral Surgery, we understand what’s at stake. Our team is specially trained in maxillofacial trauma care, offering both in-office and hospital-based treatment to help you recover safely and confidently.

Types of Facial Injuries We Treat

Our surgeons manage a wide range of facial injuries, including:

  • Facial lacerations (cuts to the face or inside the mouth)
  • Broken facial bones (cheek, nose, or eye socket fractures)
  • Fractured jaws (upper or lower jaw)
  • Soft tissue damage and injuries involving nerves or salivary glands

Dr. [Name] provides care both at our clinic and at Peter Lougheed Hospital, where he offers emergency services for facial trauma.

How Do Facial Injuries Happen?

Facial trauma can result from:

  • Car or bike accidents
  • Sports injuries
  • Falls
  • Workplace incidents
  • Physical altercations

Some injuries are straightforward; others are more complex and involve multiple facial structures. We’ll guide you through the right plan for your specific case.

How Are These Injuries Treated?

Soft Tissue Injuries

Cuts and lacerations are carefully repaired to protect facial nerves and preserve appearance. Our surgeons use precise techniques to minimize scarring whenever possible.

Facial Bone Fractures

We treat facial fractures the same way orthopedic injuries are managed—by stabilizing the bone so it can heal properly. Because you can’t wear a cast on your face, we may use:

  • Jaw wiring (for certain jaw fractures)
  • Plates and screws (rigid fixation) that hold bones in place internally

Rigid fixation allows many patients to heal faster and return to normal function sooner, without having their jaws wired shut for extended periods.

Will It Affect My Appearance?

Our goal is to restore both function and appearance. When surgery is required, we use the smallest number of incisions—and place them where they’re least visible, such as along natural creases or inside the mouth.
